Truth and Perception
Perceptions of reality are often dependent on social and geographical positioning. Even scientific facts shift over time, certainties become fluid, sometimes even turn into the opposite. Nevertheless, we make decisions based on a reality. If this process becomes conscious, the narrowness of the individual reality widens, empathy for the other emerges. I felt this particularly clearly when different projects took me to other countries.
Many things that seem to be given to us are not perceived as such elsewhere. This does not make our own experience easier, but more interesting. Through my pictures I would like to enter into a dialogue with the viewers. If something touches me, I process it painterly. The more complex the situation, the more abstract the motif becomes in the end. This step into abstraction is sometimes necessary to leave the idea of a linear reality.
Siegfried Bank Bremen 2021

Siegfried Bank, born in 1952, grew up near Hildesheim. In addition to his main studies and subsequent university work, he studied art in Göttingen, Braunschweig, Newcastle (Great Britain) and Nantes (France). He has lived and worked in Bremen for over30 years.
There he attended further artistic training courses at the Hochschule Bremen and the Hochschule für Künste and at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Project work regularly takes him to Asia, Africa and Latin America. The landscapes and people he encounters influence his work as much as his political and spiritual views.

“Parallel to the open studios gb open at the freight station in Bremen – an area for art and culture with a large and diverse program – ten artists who have joined the Professional Association of Visual Artists in Bremen (BBK) relatively recently in the last one or two years will also be exhibiting some of their works on both days. The format of this small, self-organized show was only developed last year. In 2024, the BBK members exhibited opposite in the FAQ. This year’s exhibition will focus on painting and drawing, but also include installations. The artists will be present in the exhibition rooms on both days.” – UPART79
